April 12 - ALL of play memorized

We need to be off script for the ENTIRE play this week. We will work on Act 5 and then as much of Acts 1-4 as we have time for this Thursday and then Saturday we will try to go through the whole play start to finish.  You need all your lines memorized. NO SCRIPTS.  Practice in the mirror, with a tape recording, with family members. Practice until you can nearly say it in your sleep. Repetition, repetition. Ask a parent to honestly tell you what you need to work on and have them help you.
Also, every Saturday from now on is play practice.

We've talked about this many times but remember that truly memorizing comes in stages:

  • Getting comfortable with saying the words, pronouncing them correctly.
  • Getting good inflection in your voice - making it sound interesting, speaking clearly and precisely, pausing when needed, but no hesitation otherwise.
  • Remembering the cue (line) right before yours so you know when it's your turn to speak.
  • Knowing your lines so well you have confidence and can have fun. Way less stress this way!!
  • Facial expressions, body language, actions, feeling like you are "in character." If your character is "Sam," don't play the part of Sam, BE Sam!
  • Have fun with it! When you enjoy what you're doing, the audience has more fun too.

Practice hard! We want all of you OFF SCRIPT all the way through Act 4 by this Thursday.  We only have about a month until we perform so we need things to flow!

March 29 - Memorize all your lines for Act 3

Memorize all your lines for Act 3. We want everyone off script for the first 3 acts by this coming Thursday. You all did a great job being off script for acts 1 and 2 this week. Great job!  Practice over and over until the words flow well!

March 23 - All Lines Memorized for the First 2 Acts!

We have asked all of you to commit to having all your lines for the first 2 acts completely memorized (so you're OFF SCRIPT 🙂) by this Thursday's class! Work hard. We know you can do it!!!

We have a number of props we are hoping to start gathering. We'll create a Google doc soon that you can add to if you have things we're looking for.

You're fabulous!

Hello fellow Shakespeareans! This Saturday from 11-1 at the Brown's house we will be having play practice! Mark it on your calendars. If you can't make it, be sure to contact me and let me know.

Since the performance will be in May, we'll only be having practice every other Saturday, but still come prepared. That means, as always, memorize, memorize, memorize!

Remember, Saturday from 11-1, at the Brown's house.
I hope to see you all there!

February 15 - Date of our play determined!

Keep working on your memorizing. Have a parent or older sibling quiz you and help make sure you are pronouncing all your words correctly.

This week we'll continue blocking Act I and start blocking Act II. Come with your lines for those two acts memorized as much as you can. This means you've got hard work ahead of you, but you can do hard things!!  Wow us! During blocking last week you guys came up with some great ideas. Thank you for sharing your brilliance.

We have chosen the date for performing our play. Drum roll, please.....:) We will have an evening performance Friday April 27th and an afternoon matinee Saturday, April 28th.

This is going to be great!
